Jacob and Tandi | engagement

in the six hours that i have spent in the presence of Jacob and Tandi, i have gained about 40lbs. because on day one… we had cream cheese brownies. day two brought big yummy cheeseburgers, banana splits, and home-made chocolate cookies! i cannot tell a lie.

anyhow, i made a trip out to their hometown to do their engagement session a couple of weeks ago. let me please tell you, that i BARELY did this town any justice because it is soooooo soooo pretty there.

now – i’ll show you the photos:

Rankin2Rankin3GAH!!!!! favorite!Rankin4Rankin5tandi: i adore your face!Rankin6Jacob – whom i “lovingly” refer to as Jared… ok maybe it is by accident… was not very happy about this spot. because there was a skunk nearby and he wasn’t fond of the idea of being sprayed.Rankin7this shot was Jacob’s (and you should too!)Rankin9rankin100-copyJacob and Tandi: i think the world of the two of you! i am sooo glad i got to spend the afternoon with you – even though you force fed me ice cream 😉

thank you for entrusting me with your story, your love, and your memories! i can’t wait for october!siggy-copy6

Cassidy | Class of 2009

about a month ago, i saw Cassidy at my favorite sushi restaurant here in town. She had the cutest boots on … ever. and as i sat there, i thought, “i HAVE to photograph her!!”

i left the restaurant, and then decided to go back inside to talk to her. (let’s pretend this isn’t creepy at all) anyhow, long story short, Cassidy had already sent me an email asking me to take her senior photos. so it all worked out. but that’s our little story. and i am amused by it.

at any rate, i met cassidy again a few weeks ago for her senior portraits. She’ll be graduating high school tomorrow! here are a few of the favorites from our session!cassidy007cassidy011cassidy027cassidy031cassidy078and let me just tell you that this photo took SO much work from us. well… HER. i made her flip her head so many times to see if we could catch a breeze and nothing! but then…. we got it. and i love it.cassidy079cassidy: you are ridiculously beautiful and have the warmest personality! i’m so glad i met you and got to share this special time with you! you are such a delight and i know you have a bright future within your reach. congratulations!!!  ((hug))

Ethan | class of 2009

a few weeks ago, i sat across from ethan before our session started. Ethan asked me if i did photography full time. when i said yes, he said “wow! you live by your heart”

and at that point, i knew that i was about to photograph someone rather exceptional.  i’m going to go ahead and say this: he is, hands down – without doubt, the most remarkable senior i photographed this year. and because he had such a passion. i can’t put my finger on it. but he just spills over with it. just a passion in general.

i can’t boast enough about this graduate. and even today, i met his dad and told him how highly i thought of ethan and he said “we’re very lucky to have such a great son”

and now that i’ve gone all mooshy… here are some photos from our session.cethan050cethan027Ethan does slam poetry. i’ve never heard of it before. until he did it for me. and well… it was moving. a lot of thought. a lot of heart. a lot of spirit. in this young man.cethan025ugh. i love everything about this photo.cethan045cethan050cethan055ethan. gosh, i don’t even know what to say or how to say it. but you are really one of a kind and i am proud of you for being the man that you are and know that you have such an amazing future and life in front of you. you’d better keep your promise to come to me any time you need a photographer because i am going to remain a FAN of your mind and heart! thank you for giving me the opporunity to meet you, smile, laugh and enjoy my life for the afternoon!Chriselda

Connor | Class of 2009

i’m already crying. and i haven’t even started to tell you about this young man.

Connor is more than a graduate this year. he is more than my brother. he is MORE than my little boy’s uncle.  You see, Connor is a fighter. a survivor. a statement. a spirit. a challenger. a fearless individual.

and he’s been this way since birth. Connor was born with bacterial spinal menangitis. While he’s had a clean bill of health since infancy, he has surpassed mental and physical expectations. in fact, you’d never know anything was ever wrong.

i have had the pleasure of watching him grow up. and even though i wasn’t always happy to have a little brother around me, cramping my style, i never underestimated the power or reason of his presence. since he was little, my mom has been telling him that God put him on the earth for something!

Earlier this year, my parents and i, accompanied by our amazing church family and friends, sat in the surgical waiting room. He had undergone surgery to remove a tumor that had obliterated one of his adrenal glands. The surgeons came out, and told my parents that his tumor was, in fact, cancerous and that they should start considering an avenue for treatment.

Connor was diagnosed with Adrenal Cortical Carcinoma. It’s a rare cancer that affects, literally, one in a million people.  As you can assume, our whole family has felt the impact of this news.

Connor opted to begin chemotherapy immediately. i admire his bravery and courage and strength when his body was at it’s weakest.  today, he’s about halfway through his treatments. and we have every hope, prayer, and thought banking on a recovery!

I’m always happy to report on his status. Because my brother is truly an inspiration.  I can’t even begin to imagine what conflictions you’d have when give news like this. I tend to believe that i would throw myself on the couch and sulk in a very “woe is me” manner and fail to fight this thing standing. But not my brother!!! My brother has bravely tackled the physical and mental toll of his diagnosis, treatment, and surgery. He has simply rolled with the punches and is still standing.

Connor will still be graduating high school this spring. and we’re all very very proud of his accomplishments.  so without further ado… please allow me to proudly introduce you to my brother:lconnor003lconnor005lconnor012lconnor029lconnor044Connor: you are such a CONCRETE definition of strength. courage. determination. will and SPIRIT. and i admire that. i applaud that. i’m not sure if you will ever fully understand the way you have touched the lives of many. the way you have encouraged others. the way your story alone has motivated people to get up. you will never really understand how much others see in you. so just keep doing what you’re doing, because you are a therapy to so many of *us* – without even knowing it. i am so so sooooo proud of you. so relieved to see that you are still my little brother. that you’re still flirting with nurses. that you are determined to be more than a diagnosis. that you strive, crave, and ACHE to live your life to it’s fullest without fear or doubt. so just remember how much you say to all of us by just being yourself. remember how much you accomplish just by being you. remember that there are so many of us that find our own peace in your strength. you are a hero to many. i admire and respect your will and spirit and heart. and i can only pray that laken grows up to be HALF the man that i saw standing before me in these photos. we love love LOVE you dearly.siggy
