Brooklyn | Newborn

when your job requires you to hold a newborn baby in your arms for a few hours…

you can’t really call it a job.

and when your job requires that you participate in someone’s life every five weeks during their pregnancy

to the point where that person becomes your friend

to the point where you hold this newborn in your arms

and just cry because she’s just as much a part of your heart as she is to her family members

that… that is when your job isn’t a job.

that is when it becomes a blessing.

when it becomes a GIFT

three of my favorite people in the world

brooklyn2038-copychance and lauren: words fail me here. because i have seen the two of you progress from individuals, to a couple, to a bride and groom – to celebrating your anniversary – to being expecting parents and now… as a family.

thank you for having me along for the journey. for the milestones. for the way you have incorporated me into your lives. and granted me the great gift of your friendship.

for letting me come over unannounced and spend hours with you at the hospital. for trusting me to create your memories. for sharing some of them with me. for always always always being so sweet. for showing laken how to do the perfect push up. for watching tv with him. for meeting us for ice cream when i had no make up on. for late night pizza. for the laughs. and giggles. and times where we failed to pick up the camera because we couldn’t stop talking. for knowing that i love you. for giving me this wonderful wonderful joy of photographing you time and again. you have truly become such great people in my life. i am truly blessed to know that i get to see so much more.

the simple things | personal

i promise to return tomorrow with a “real” blog post.

but i was going though files when i found this little gem. and i wanted to share it with you.

This is my little boy, Laken, and his great grandma “Tita”

Laken and Tita

**ETA – sand in his hair from the volleyball court he was playing on.

My grandma is 82 years old. and just the cutest thing on the planet. my “Welita” has always been very special to me because i was partly raised by her as a child. She is – without question – what we all aspire to be. She is a hard worker. a servant. she is constantly in prayer. she is patient. honest. loving. she watches three hours of Novelas every night. and you can’t tell her that they aren’t “real” life situations. she is silly. and comical. she laughs often and easily. she makes everyone smile.

we all protect her. we all love her. we love that she buys christmas gifts for all 62 of her grandchildren from the Dollar Store. We love that we get socks, hair brushes, and salt shakers. We are all fond of our memories with and of her. and are very thankful for the time that God STILL grants us with her amazing spirit and being.

but me… i’m thankful that she knows my little man. that he sees her and gets giddy. that his voice goes UP an octave as he exclaims “Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Titaaaaaaaaaaaaa!” That he has met her. that he knows her. but more importantly that i got to see this interaction between this amazing woman in my life … and my son. To see how much she loves him. how much he makes her smile. to laugh because we all cease to exist when he is around her. to see her feel less pain in her legs when he’s around. to see her take him to the park. to see her surrender to a child’s spirit with him.

there’s nothing greater in the world than that…. and i have a picture of it.

Noah | One Year Old

It is with a bit of sadness that I share these photos with you.

I say it all the time. But I have been talking to Noah’s mom about photographing him

Since before he was born.

Over the past year, this whole family has become very near and dear to my heart.

One night, Libby sent me an email with bad news.

They were moving away!!!

(well, it was good news for them. Bad news for me)

a part of me knew I’d see them again

but a different part of me was sad that it wouldn’t be as often

I recently made a trip to the Dallas area for a few sessions

(and one last mini-vacay before summer ends)

I made my way to Fort Worth to to photograph his one year photos.

It was soooo sweet to see my baby again!noah1013-copynoah1019-copynoah1064-copyfaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaavenoah1079-copynoah1034-copyso i have to tell you that we put the cupcake in front of Noah, and he wasn’t impressed. maybe he’s  not my baby afterall

noah1037-copyhe was more concerned with feeding the dog

noah1040-copynoah1041-copyhe DID dig in though!

any mother of a little boy can appreciate this next image and find a comic relief in the truth of the situation:

libby is trying to get his swim trunks on. without going into cardiac arrest

just chillin’

noah1101-copynoah1095-copyand what is a Noah post without a photo of Einstein??einy

libby – thank you oh so much for still … STILL allowing me the honor of being your photographer. i feel soooo blessed to know you and josh and this adorable little boy. You have truly become a soft spot in my heart and i hope that i am granted this pleasure for a long time to come! i can’t wait to see you all in a couple of weeks. until then, give my baby a hug. and a kiss. and scratch Einstein’s head for me!
